An Apprentice Tale – Part 4 (Zoe & Ollie)

We've now had our Apprentice's Zoe and Ollie for 11 and 9 months respectively and are still unable to get rid of them. We're very pleased with the UK apprenticeship program providing us with two fantastic candidates who have been studying at the same time as working with us. They've now completely finished their coursework and are valued members of the Creative Team! Their course is called Social and Digital Media and it took them through a variety of social media and marketing techniques all relative to the work they do here, they have even been able to include work they have completed here as evidence towards their coursework criteria. Although the coursework did challenge them at times, they finished it with plenty of time to spare and we're now looking into starting them on another course, this time in Marketing. We are considering looking at hiring more apprentices, it's a fantastic way to find young talent and give people a chance to prove themselves as they earn and learn at the same time. He're and update from Ollie and Zoe as they're well on their way to becoming qualified professionals.

Ollie:

I'm now 9 months into my apprenticeship at JJ Roofing Supplies and have completed the coursework with 3 months to spare. I've learned so much during my time here and worked on a variety of projects I didn't expect to be a part in, from filming a festival called Summer Soulstice, to editing a video of my colleagues skydiving. I've compiled a huge collection of training videos to increase the knowledge of our staff in how our products work and how they are installed. I've designed 3D logos and animations for the company. I've designed banners and flyers for our branches and monthly offers. I've assisted in the production of our quarterly presentation and gone through covert mystery shopper footage to monitor our staffs customer service and overall performance.

I'm now thinking about enrolling in a marketing course to gain more qualifications and increase my knowledge in the respective field.

I feel like I have progressed well during my time here, the learning curve has been steep and I'm hoping the progression continues as it has done. I'm now taking a bigger role in the production of blog articles and content generation. This is something I'm really pleased about as it presents a big challenge in terms of creativity and communication skills.

That's it for now, I'll be doing another update when I complete my course with a shiny certificate and hopefully (fingers crossed) a job offer!

Zoe:

At the start of the apprenticeship I was thrown in at the deep end, there was a very steep learning curve with me learning how to efficiently use many programs from the Adobe Creative Suite, mailing and social media management tools. I'm now very comfortable using these programs as a I come up on my 1 year anniversary of starting to work here.

The office is getting extremely busy now and I'm learning the importance of being able to multitask as I tackle more than one project at once. The days really fly by, I design a lot of posters and marketing material and after starting them in the morning, before I know it the day is almost over and it's time to go home.

One very challenging task I manage is creating and sending out the monthly email offers. These are comprised of many different elements and change drastically every month, these require a high level of quality as spelling and grammar mistakes are not acceptable when sending an email to customers. I've now finished all of my coursework and am waiting for my certificate to come through from the awarding body. Stay tuned for another update when I'm a qualified member of staff!
