Roofing leakages: How to spot them

Roofing leakage is a common problem. Lack of regular maintenance and poor construction are some of the reasons for roofing leakages. You should thus always pay attention during roofing construction projects to avoid problems later on.

Here are some points which will help you in detecting roofing leakages post-construction:

Visual inspection

Inspect the roof carefully to spot any abnormal signs. For instance, you can easily spot missing or loose shingles. However, you would have to inspect shingles carefully for signs like cracked or missing nails. Similarly, look for signs of corrosion or wear and tear.

Uneven areas of the roof

You can also detect leakages near the uneven areas of roof. Usually, leakages are found around the chimneys due to poor caulking. This results into small holes which allow water seepage. Do not worry as these leakages can be handled quite easily. Moreover, such repair procedures are quite affordable.

Inspect problem areas

If you have had leakages before then it is recommended that you inspect such areas regularly. It is possible that the problem might resurface. Thus, regular inspection can keep roofing leakage at bay.

Check the attic and basement areas

Both, the attic as well as the basement are common areas for leakages. These areas are also the most forgotten areas. It is highly recommended that you check these areas from time to time. Simple yet significant indications such as dripping water and a change in wall colour will help you know that there is a leakage nearby.

Consider these simple points and prevent roofing leakages.
