Roofing styles change depending on what part of the country you live. Today there are various types of roofs and roofing materials you can choose from. Houses today, reflect both the older traditional roofing styles as well as accept the new contemporary styles.
The various types of roofing materials are:
Membrane roofing
Membrane roofing is a system adopted by many buildings in the UK. It is utilised on flat surfaces to prevent leakage and accumulation of water. Membrane roofing is made of Thermoset, synthetic rubber, modified bitumen and Thermoplastic membranes.
Ceramic roofs
Ceramic roofs are very expensive because they are highly durable and have a long life span.
Tented roof
Tented roofs were very popular in the 16th and 17th century and are a part of Russian Architecture. They are made of wood and are polygonal in shape. Their major advantage is they prevent snow from piling on the rooftops during winter and shed water during monsoons.
Fabric roof
Fabric roofs make use of coated fabric or laminated fabric along with cables, edge ropes, clamps, roof drains, neoprene, arch wear strips and anchor bolts. All this constitutes the covering of the roof outside the building.
Cool roof
Cool roof is a roofing material that reflects infrared and ultraviolet rays of the sun and reduces heat transfer to the building. It is durable and normally white in colour. It reduces air pollution and urban heat island affect and increases thermal efficiency.
Green roofing
Green roofing is gaining vast popularity as it is eco-friendly. Green roof refers to the roofing system wherein you cover the entire or partial roof of the building with vegetation.
