Usually, the leakage takes place in the ceiling or the exterior wall. You can also help spot the leakage by using a torch. All you need to do is focus the torch on the floor over the leakage spot. Ensure that you carry out this procedure when it is raining heavily. Some of the other common identification points for leaks are as follows:
- Standing water
- Water stains
- Mold
- Wet insulation
- Exposed insulation
The aforementioned factors are a sign of roof leakage and hence need to be worked upon at the earliest.
Examine the underside of the roof
You should then examine the underside of the roof for any signs of wetness or mold. These factors can be easily found at the points of intersection between two different roof planes. Cracks also point towards roof leakage.
Roofing material
You will require a ladder for this particular step. In this step, you will have to climb the roof and inspect the condition of roofing tiles and slates. Similarly, you should examine the condition of the roof sheathing and shingles. Usually, a leak in the attic and underside means that there is a problem in the roofing material.
Consider these useful tips and spot leaks in a jiffy.
