Using felt shingles to get a great roof

Today, felt paper is an important roofing supply commodity. It is an essential when reroofing a roof. It was previously used for just providing temporary protection to the tiles from the ever conspiring elements of nature. It kept the tiles from deteriorating and wearing out.

Advantages of felt shingles

The felt shingles which are being used today are becoming increasingly popular. The felt paper protects the tiles by keeping the water out. It is like an extra outer layer which gives protection to homes even when the tiles are damaged. Different weights of felt are used depending upon the material used for the roofing. The felt weights can also vary depending on factors such as the roof pitch.

The history of felt shingles

Felt paper has surprisingly been used in the construction industry for nearly five decades. Initially, felt paper was used to protect wooden decking form sap. This helped to prevent damage to the roof tiles above. Although its purpose today has changed, felt is an integral to a good roofing system. Firstly, it protects the joints and beams from moisture. Secondly, it acts as a water resistant barrier stopping the entry of water when the outer tiles are damaged.

Felt shingles along with other roofing supplies help you to plan and maintain a good roofing system for your home.
