DeWalt was born in 1922 in Pennsylvania, USA when Raymond E. DeWalt – the superintendent of the local Seabrook Farms – perfected the first radial arm machine for the purpose of providing more versatility in woodworking operations. The company has seen nothing but growth since then with the key events outlined below:

  • 1924: The DeWalt Products Company is officially formed in Leola, Pennsylvania producing an electric universal woodworking machine known as the DeWalt Wonder Worker
  • 1929: In order to successfully keep up with ever increasing demand, the DeWalt Products Company moves to a larger factory in Lancaster, Pennsylvania
  • 1941: The DeWalt Products Company begins a period of even more rapid expansion due to the government’s orders in relation to national defence and requirements of wartime machinery
  • 1953: DeWalt Inc expands into Canada
  • 1955: DeWalt Inc adds more than 40,000 square of manufacturing space to their flagship plant
  • 1960: DeWalt Inc acquires the American and Canadian patents for the Bennett Two Way Panel Saw
  • 1961: Adds another 8,400 square feet of storeroom to their plants
  • 1966: Adds an additional 16,000 square foot warehouse to their plant in order to keep up with demand
  • 1967: DeWalt Inc introduces their well-known bench grinder
  • 1971: DeWalt Inc introduces innovative metal cutting machines for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • 1992: DeWalt creates its very first line of portable electric power tools and accessories that have been specifically designed for residential contractors, professional remodelers and woodworkers
  • 2010: Expands the ground breaking XPS platform with a 350 millimetre mitre saw
  • 2011: Introduces the XR System – the new benchmark in cordless tools
  • 2012: Introduces their new alligator saw design that was unrivalled since 1992
  • 2013: DeWalt Inc launches the world’s first cordless framing nailer
