Different Types of Green Roof

There are two main ways to install and set-up a green roof. First, the modular method. This is an innovative approach that allows for a segmented installation. There are several different pieces of the puzzle, such as the Wallbarn M-Tray, that slot together on top of the roof. It is very easy to install, and once set-up, very easy to maintain.

Wallbarn, in particular, is a great choice for a modular green roof. Depending on the product you choose they likely come with their own planted wildflowers and excellent drainage systems. Wallbarn modular planters have deep drainage for good water-ingress and root growth, there are no sharp edges which can risk cutting the drainage membrane, and they’re easy to transport and install.

Alternatively, the other method for green roof installation is a roll-out roof. You will still need a drainage layer but there are no modular units, rather one roll-out level of turf. These roofs can be easy to install but trickier to get the amount of drainage correct. It’s best to ask for professional help when planning your green roof installation, and if you have any questions about the products you can always message the JJ Roofing team.
